Hey kids,
Sadly, the 6th edition of the International Football Championship for boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 12 with Type 1 diabetes has come to an end, after an unforgettable weekend in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Almost 730 children from Canada, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Slovakia and Switzerland participated in the national qualification rounds. In the end, 132 qualifying children had the honour and pleasure of playing their favourite sport at Lausanne’s Olympic Stadium, La Pontaise (Switzerland) and competed to become world champions. We congratulate the winning team Germany, who defeated Belgium by 4-0. In addition, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Europe presented the IDF Europe Trophy for Sportsmanship and Teamwork to the Netherlands for displaying these qualities so well throughout the tournament.
For many of these fantastic children, this event was their first opportunity to meet other children living with a similar condition and to share their experiences of both diabetes and sports.

The next edition of the Diabetes Junior Cup will take place in 2014 in
the Netherlands. The event has grown a lot due to its success, and as it
now requires much more preparation in advance, especially for the
national qualifications, we decided to make it a bi-yearly event.
As
soon as we have more news about the 7th edition in 2014, the
participating countries, age restrictions and start of the registration,
we will announce it via this website www.juniorcup-diabetes.com or our Facebook page.
Hopefully we will see each other in the next edition!
